ImageFishermen's Cooperative LANTERNA has 124 fishermen members from Rovinj, Pula and Labin in Istria, Croatia.

With ten fishing boats, fifty trawl boats and thirty continuously active fishermen who are using gillnet, trawl lines and fish pots, the Cooperative guarantees continuous supply of seasonal oily and white fish throughout the whole year.

ImageDispersed locations of our members along the East and West coast of Istria are a guarantee that our Cooperative can secure nominal daily/weekly quantities and assortment of supply, even in a most unfavourable weather conditions.

In the period from November 2005 until July 2006, the Cooperative has provided approximately 120 tons of white fish (on average 15 tons monthly or 4 tons weekly) to customers in Italy and Croatia. 

ImageThe most represented fish species in our assortment are musky octopus (30%), sole (30%), and hake, stripped red mullet and squid (25%). Very important potential lays in crab fishing (crab market has not yet been secured) and especially in mollusc fishing, for which there is still no adequate legislative at national level, with regard to the export licence.

With the beginning of June 2006, the Cooperative has started to provide oily fish. Only in June 2006, the Cooperative has supplied its customers with 20 tons of sardines, anchovies, mackerels and šuri.

 

In the next period (nominally until the end of year 2006), our offer of fresh fish will be complemented with dried and frozen products from our assortment. We are also able to provide sufficient quantities of the fish of the highest quality (sea bass and gilt-poll).
